Do you think you will adopt someday?" She got all excited and said, "Yes, from China, Guatemala and Ethiopia. They will be named Baby Shrek, Lisa and Maci ." I was like "OK!!!!!!"

What we wish for our kids......

A friend sent this to me and it says so much! We can't protect our children from everything and we shouldn't, that teaches them nothing, not responsibility, not to be caring, only to be selfish. It is sad.

Paul Harvey Writes:

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better. I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her. I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one. I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.

I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it.. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with them.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Prayer for the Steven Curtis Chapman family

Please pray for the Steven Curtis Chapman family. Their youngest daughter was killed yesterday in an accident, getting run over by a vehicle driven by her brother. How tragic and sad!! God bless and be with this precious family.

Is adoption a bad word???

My friend, Becca, asked this question on her blog and so I thought I would ask here too. Is adoption a bad word? Is it a word talked about in your home openly? Is it a word that your children know? Is the word adopted only okay to use during the right time and in the right place? Or can it only be used by those of us who have gone through the experience? Or do you just love it or hate it in general? Maybe it is not just the word, but the manner and situation in which it is used?

This is one thing that Becca says...
Lately I've noticed the different opinions/reactions that adoptive parents have to the word adopted. I have one friend who has one birth child and one adopted child. She does not like or use the word adopted in her house.

OK, Here is my opinion...

I love the word adoption or any form of it first because God set adoption into motion a long time ago before the world began to adopt us as His sons and daughters, through Christ, his son. And showed us that many times in the Bible, with different people. Can you think of a few? What about Moses, Esther, and Jesus himself, just to name a few....

The 2nd reason I love the word adopted is because it has to do with a choice and an effort.
Now... not to make less of pregnancy, but sometimes that isn't a choice, it just happens. (a couple of mine did!) But with adoption it doesn't just happen, we make a conscious effort to do all the things we have to do to "adopt" our child and /or children.

I could go on and on about ways I love the word adopt or any form of it, we do talk about it in our home a lot and Heidy knows what it is and she prays for her sister, who is still in Ethiopia, because "she will not know us when she gets here" and "to not be crying for her papa" and "to have Jesus shining in her heart". She gets "it" more than a lot of adults do.

And the main reason I love the word adopted is because, Heidy is.... and our next daughter will be.

Happy Mother's Day

The Two Women
Once there were two women
living half a world apart.
God joined these women together
with a common thread between their hearts.

In one, He created a life,
a beautiful baby girl.
In the other, He planted an idea,
weighing it heavily on her soul.

The first, heartbroken, faith strong,
knew the baby wasn't hers to raise.
She watched as the baby was taken,
and knelt down to God in praise.

The second, frightened, faith strong,
asked God to hold her hand
as she traveled toward a dream
to an unfamiliar, distant land.

The baby, she was beautiful,
an angelic Guatemalan face.
She stared, wide-eyed and curious,
as into her mother's arms she was placed.

And there were tears full of sadness
as one mother's heart wept.
And there were tears full of gladness
as one mother's heart leapt.

Two very different women
with a common circumstance.
Each asking for God's guidance
instead of leaving life to chance.

Two very different women
who love the same little girl,
praying to God daily
to guide her through this world.

And though they'll never meet,
they are forever joined heart to heart
by the same awesome God,
lands apart.

I don't know who wrote this poem, but she says it so well!!! I praise God, I was chosen to be Heidy's mommy!! I am blessed by all my children, but very thankful for my Guatemalan born daughter, that was born in my heart!!

Mother's Day Banquet

Friday night we drove 4 1/2 hours to go to my in-laws. We stayed at Mark's brothers house and Carlette, my sis in law, was in charge of their churches Mother's Day Lunch.

The theme, was "We are God's Princesses".

This is Carlette, speaking.

My mother in law was there too, she goes to church there, too.

It was Heidy's first Mother/ Daughter type banquet!! And it is Mother's day on May 10th in Guatemala!! Very fitting!!

God has blessed us with 4 great kids. Skyler was there too, but she was the photographer! I am glad and humbled to be their mom!!
